Procedure to light diya
Everyone lit diya at home and begin their prayer. And it’s a custom to light a lamp initially before starting any auspicious events or ceremonies. I have seen my mom waking up early at 4 am everyday (Brahma muhurtham) lite the lamp and recite kanagadhara sthothram. I used to ask her the necessity for getting so early. Then she taught me the values and morals of hinduism and purpose of lighting diya, which made me more conscious about its Significance.
Light symbolizes elimination of darkness, grief and sorrows along with enlightenment. A Lamp lit with oil or ghee signifies the members of the family. In Hinduism, it’s considered that Divine force is present in the jhothi so when you lite a lamp the divine force gets activated and penetrates into our body and activates our soul. Also has a power to neutralize negative forces due to its divinity.
The Ancestral souls (ancestral with great spiritual power who are responsible for the welfare of the souls that are part of their blood lines) also make themselves present in the lamp jhothi. When the pithrus are present in your house, they will bless you with contentment and peace of mind.
